A short way from central Brighton, the Lansdowne Place Hotel is seaside accomodation straight out of the old school. A recent revamp of the bar and restaurant means you can enjoy the grandeur of the Regency style without feeling out place. The area is a little quieter than the seafront, home of the majority of Brighton's larger hotels, and the calm atmosphere seems to carry over into the building. Being situated right next to the city's less crowded beaches means the hotel is better suited to a spot of slow-paced summer loafing than a full-on south coast bender, and the deck chair and picnic take room service to a new level for the terminally lazy. If you don't fancy risking your life swimming in the channel, the new spa will be completed in late summer. The predominantly French style menu is better than all but the top restaurants found in the town centre, so if a taxing day has wiped you out there is no need to stress yourself hunting for cuisine. Finish up by hitting the bar for nightcap or two, and you'll be ready to crash in the stylish luxury of your room. User Reviews for Lansdowne Place Hotel
First impression was not good. The reception carpet was threadbare and covered in bits. The front desk was padded shiny purple/silver velour. Teamed with black gloss paintwork, this gothic scheme continued throughout the entire hotel, dotted along the way with the odd Buddha head , art deco mirror, and dusty artificial flower arrangement. The occasional tables and sideboards showed grime and sticky marks, were mismatched tatty. Not at all comperable with other hotels in this price range. I arrived on time in the spa. However my relaxing experience was cut short by the very stressed therapist being 30 minutes behind schedule. My treatment had to be cancelled due to her lack of time. My husband had asked for the room to be "decked out" with flowers and balloons(foil helium hearts floating above a 4 poster trailing satin ribbons I hear you saying?) No. They forgot, so one of the staff kindly nipped down to the local shop and got a kiddie pack of balloons which they blew up and tossed on the floor (more purple velour) They also got TWO identical bouquets of roses which were proudly displayed in two not identical ice buckets. There was no fruit, no champagne, but the hotel proudly presented us with a very cheap looking bottle of red wine as compensation for for all the problems. The large (and only) window had no voil or blind. Scaffolding and a work platform complete with tools were erected right up to the glass...don't worry we were told the men don't work weekends.... My husband paid cash for the flowers because he was told that the money had come out of petty cash and the short fall would have to be explained to the owner...Then we left. Total time in the hotelwas about 2 hours. My recommendation if you want a really romantic relaxing birthday? AVOID THIS PLACE!. Oh by the way the final straw... they debited my husbands card for the full amount even though we didn't stay there.
