Merchant City

Merchant City is so flash that so much as a sniff of the place would bring Ming the Merciless out in hives. It's home to the Italian centre, which houses many designer shops and will bankrupt you with little difficulty, as well as many of Glasgow's gay clubs, pubs and lots of cool little bars, shops and restaurants. Basically, you should easily find things to keep you entertained all day here, unless you don't have a pulse. Merchant City has been around since the 17th century, taking its name from the tobacco merchants who gave the area its wealth and a lot of its unique architecture.
