The British Empire and Commonwealth Museum
This celebrated museum is plonked right inside Brunel's 19th-century Temple Meads station. It houses 16 permanent galleries, offering a diverse, ever-changing series of exhibitions. It also hosts family events, lectures and seminars; bringing Bristol's past to the fore. The museum holds one of the most significant exhibitions in the UK: 'Breaking the Chains'. Marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of transatlantic slavery, it is a quite humbling retrospective that everyone should make an effort to experience.
