Flapper and Firkin
Infamous to locals for its sewage-pit toilets, this wonderful place is a short walk from Centenary Square. One of the few pubs in Brum that's got some character, even if it is a bit rough around the edges. Frequented by old-timers and young protégé alcoholics, the Flapper puts regular gigs on in a sweaty, downstairs gigging space – about as big as a van. They hold a weekly quiz-night, have a juke-box and a pool table to keep you entertained between pints. Grub is served right out of the top drawer.
