Take a step behind the busy Ecclesall Road and on a quiet backstreet sits the unassuming Porter Cottage, candidate for one of the best pubs in the city. The legendary jukebox –more Aphex Twin than Meatloaf –should get you tapping your feet and waving your lighter towards the end of the night. The intimate layout gives the pub a relaxed and welcoming feel and you don't get any townie idiots ruining your evening –always a bonus. The staff are friendly and there always seems to be a lot of them, so no matter how packed it gets you're never kept waiting long for that much needed fifth pint. Of course the problem with a pub as good as this is that others find out too, so if you need to plant your backside down to enjoy a night then you'd better get in early.
