Bestwood Country Park

Split, shave and turn. No, we're not talking about a sequence of dance steps to barber-shop quartet numbers, these are traditional skills that are taught on Bestwood Park's woodcarving courses. Once we're up to scratch with this ancient skill, we're planning on carving ourselves a state-of-the-art five-gallon beer flaggon, so we can get our evening's beer supply in one go and only have to go to the bar once. In summer, they lay on sweat lodges and health walks, but because it's nearer the city than the other two country parks, it's best to phone ahead as the sessions fill up well in advance.
