Goose Fair
Despite the crowds, the hype, the plastic razzamatazz, exorbitant prices and crap food, we haven't ever skipped going to the fair. One of Europe's largest and longest-standing – it dates back to 1300 – it has 500-plus attractions, including rides, hook the duck, ghost walks and the ubiquitous Nottingham mushy peas. Most attractive at night when you won't notice the discarded burgers and candy floss underfoot. Due to the traffic, we'd recommend walking up Mansfield Road, which also means you can stop for a sharpener on your way there.
