Green Spaces
For a city reputed for diagonal, umbrella–phobic rain and generalised grey bleakness, Manchester has nurtured many a fine green park ready for those blessed sunny days. Take your gran to Heaton Park for cream tea in the mansion house, or to National Trust–owned Tatton Park to see other old deers. Fletcher Moss, on the River Mersey banks in Didsbury, has a botanical flair; while Chorlton Water Park's wild beauty attracts from far and wide. The cream of the turf crop is Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield, with enough space for undisturbed sunbathing. It's dog–walker–friendly, with special areas for unleashing your canine. Tennis players, hoop–shooters and contemplaters are all catered for – and boats can be rented on the lake in summer.
