Island Restaurant & Bar

You're not exactly short of choices when it comes to restaurants in London. Seemingly every variety and sub-variety of cuisine has been pedaled throughout the city, making it hard to find an eatery that hits you as something very special.

Perhaps it was the service: supremely natural and professional all at the same time, with a manner so inviting and refreshing we nearly forgot we were there to have dinner.

Maybe the wine: a bold and beautiful 2006 Mud House Sauvignon Blanc, with the gooseberry and passion fruit aromas dancing on our palate.

Quite possibly, it was the food: we took the Scallops with tomato, chorizo and coriander dressing, which was extremely tasty though not a patch on the chicken liver and foie gras paté – quite frankly astounding in taste and texture.

Next came veal and a fillet steak, the latter cooked to a turn and faultless. The vegetables complimented the mains as well as we could have asked for with some tasty spinach and mashed potato.

The venue itself has a great atmosphere with conversations milling around your ears with out being distracting and the lighting just right to give the Island a real intimacy given its busy Bayswater Road location.

It's quite difficult to write a review about a place that is truly, quite flawless, but we hope you get the picture. PD
