S&M Cafe
Be drawn to this kitsch diner either by the titillating name or the fact that it was Alfredo's cafe in cult film Quadrophenia. But return for the stout British comfort food served by friendly staff in lovingly preserved surroundings. There was never a more pleasing backdrop against which to gorge yourself on bangers and mash, mugfuls of tea and chunky vegetable soup. It's greasy spoon perfection, but the sort of perfection that costs twice the price of mediocrity.
