The Crown Tavern

This Clerkenwell boozer has had the Changing Rooms crew in again, and is all the better for it. We were led across the Green by the lure of fairy lights. Aaaaah. As you walk in, the place has a vaguely Dickensian air, with dripping candles and dark wood, leading through to a mighty civilised drawing room with a welcoming hearth. Upstairs, there's a party room, complete with its very own eight-ball pool table. That'll be handy for dancing on later. The place boasts a healthy range of beers and a decent wine list. To soak up the damage, the Crown serves food until 9.30pm. The ubiquitous hefty sharing platter and chilli chunky chips should do the trick. The place is brim-full of meedja types letting off steam and in summer, the Green outside – less green, more grey – turns into a chattering open space to nurse ample pintage.
