Gem

Even this haven of good value and service has gone a bit fancy in the last year. We're going to forgive them - it's still one of the finest bargain restaurants in town - but on our last visit the usual free olives/pickles were notable by their absence - they still did the fantastic Kurdish pastries though. And we had to ask for our free ice cream/baklava when we'd finished. The waiter looked like he'd had people complaining all night - in a regulars place like this, any change is going to be slow to catch on. Add on few significant menu changes and we were verging on distraught. You can't blame them - every other restaurant on the street gets away with fleecing cash from its punters left, right and centre - but really Gem... we expected more. Buck up, bung a free olive our way and all will be forgiven. The food here is still undeniably gorgeous.
