Calvin Harris Interview

Are you enjoying Global Gathering?

Well, I just got here and so far I’ve enjoyed approximately three sandwiches and a beer, so yeah.

What other festivals have you played this summer?

Glastonbury, T in the Park, Oxygen, Isle of Skye, T4 on the Beach and others…

So what’s the best gig you’ve played so far?

Probably T in the Park. It was in a tent full of drunk Scottish people, so it was good.

How did you get into making music?

At the age of 14 my brother introduced me to a computer programme that could make music and I just wasted lots of time on that.

So what did you do before you got signed?

Before I got a deal I was working in a shop for about 5 years.

When did you first realise you were famous?

I think it’s yet to happen!

What’s your main musical inspiration?

I dunno, other music?! Maybe Prince.

Cool, are you going to see him in London this summer?

I don’t think I am, I haven’t got tickets but maybe I’ll try to sneak in!

So what’s your dream collaboration?

I don’t actually have one, any collaborations I’ve done have been suggested to me rather than me coming up with it. So if anyone suggests anything I’m like wow OK or no, thanks.

No one you’d really like to work with, not even Prince?

No way, that’d be a disaster cos he’s much better than me!

So what’ve you got coming up next in you’re busy schedule?

I’m going to see the Mitchell Brothers and the Streets tomorrow, then I’m playing Electric Gardens and Loch Lomond next weekend.

Have you got any singles coming out soon?

Yeah, in about a month I’ve got ‘Merrymaking at My Place’ coming out, there’s a very good Mr Oizo remix of it, so look out for that.
