It's time to whip out your balls...

...and start practising for the Midnight Madness basketball championship

fun food shop drink eat london whats onDo people consider you a 'baller'? Have you got 'game'? Do you enjoy clichéd terms derived from American rap music? If so, then we have a competition that's perfect for you. It's called 'Midnight Madness' and it's a grassroots basketball championship and hip-hop tour.

This year, a first taste of the Midnight Madness flavour can be experienced on the extended regional roadshow programme, which will give players a route to qualify for the elite court and the fans a chance to get a piece of the action on their doorstep. The roadshow hits Brighton on Saturday 9th July at The Triangle Leisure Centre, from 12noon-6pm.

Experience is not required to compete, but it definitely helps. If your idea of exercise is lifting a pint from the bar to your mouth and back again, then you way want play cheerleader instead. Look at it this way - at least by sitting in the spectator seats you'll be able to continue eating all that food that prevented you from participating in the first place. Hoops or Hula Hoops? Slam dunking or sweet chilli dipping? Either way you'll be dribbling.

Admission to all roadshows is free for both competitors and spectators, although online registration is required to attend regional finals and the grand finale, whilch will be held at Crystal Palace in London on 18th August with NBA stars Luol Deng and Pops Mensah-Bonsu in attendance. Great music, giveaways, and Midnight Madness match commentary will feature at every date, but the grande finale will be extra special, including a cinema, gaming zone, and a lounge for the spectators to relax in. A little known company called Nike is the primary sponsor and players will compete throughout the evening on finals night – between 7pm and 12pm – for the chance to bag a trip to Los Angeles, California for a three game tour on the courts of Venice Beach and The Point – Nike’s secret basketball court and homage to the history of basketball.
